Description
It's a little known fact the the coastal plain of eastern North Carolina boasts the highest black bear densities in the world. There are states which have more total population, but nowhere as densly populated as the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula. It's the ideal habitat! Not a lot of people, and a large wetland complex, including the largest pocosin swamp in the world. All this, according the the State's top Bear biologist. We also have some of the largest! Although this guy is not one of the big guys, yet, he probably weighs in at 350-400 lbs. It's not unusual to see the older males at 600-700 lbs, with the current record at 880 lbs.
