This is the third iteration of the Bodie Island Lighthouse. It was completed in 1872, and is 156 feet tall. The first was built in 1857. It is also, one of a few brick tower lighthouses still working in the US, and one of a few lighthouses that use an original first-order Fresnel lens.
This was shot just as the setting sun was touching the horizon, casting a golden reflection windows of the Lifesaving Station house. I waited for the light to come around, to catch both.
I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina. Now, back home, and just enjoying the ride. I've been a photographer for over 40 years, first as a hobbyist, and then as a professional. I've enjoyed a lifelong love affair with animals domestic and wild, especially horses. I am an animal advocate, an outdoorsman, and naturalist first, and then a photographer. I believe that it is important to know, understand, and respect and protect the subjects that you want to photograph before ever setting foot in the wild. Self-described as a thinker, philosopher, photographer, and geek, but mostly just a dreamer! I won't bore you with a lot of pretense and fluff.
