Description
The Frisco Pier, on North Carolina's Outer Banks, on a misty January morning in 2015. Built in 1962, it became a beloved community landmark, and popular fishing spot. In 2010, Hurricane Earl caused extensive damage, from which it never recovered. It was privately owned, and the two natives who owned the pier couldn't afford repairs, and it remained closed as they tried to arrange funds to restore it. It was hit again in 2011 by Hurricane Irene. In 2013, it was purchased by the Park Service. Plans were announced in early 2017, to completely destroy it. This shot was taken in January 2015, and since then, a Nor'easter tore down even more of it before it was finally demolished completely, in 2019.
