Description
I love bears! Eastern North Carolina is home to a large population of American Black Bear, especially on the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. I frequently hike through the wildlife refuges, to find and spend time with them, and of course, to photograph. I just love watching them, though. I watched this large male as he was making his way across a corn field after feeding through the early morning. He crossed a canal, paused to look for a moment, then ran across the road the next field and the woods, where they stay and nap through the heat of the day.

I admire you for getting this shot and getting so close to bears, Fon! Nice shot.

Thanks so much, Kathy! The black bears really are pretty shy. I've been tracking and observing them for a while.
