Description

A close up look at a Common Snapping Turtle. This is North Carolina's largest freshwater turtle, but their range extends throughout the southern United States and into Mexico. They are top-level predators in their environments, and very agressive. This big guy is about 24 inches long including the tail and is probably a little larger than the average in the area. It was a misty and wet, making it a good day for travel. This one was between bodies of water, so possibly looking for a mate or better food source., or perhaps a female looking for a nesting site.
