Description
The original Mast Store, in Valle Crucis, NC, just as the lights were coming on for opening, on a foggy morning. The first rooms were built by Henry Taylor, in 1883. He sold half interest to W.W. Mast, when it was known as the Taylor and Mast General Store. Mast purchased the remaining interest in 1913, and since then, the sign over the door, has always had Mast in the name. The family tried to carry everything their neighbors needed...from plow points to cloth and cradles to caskets, which led to the popular saying, “If you can't buy it here, you don't need it.” As you walk through the store, you can see where rooms and levels were added over the years.
