Description
Migrating Canada Geese often fly in a "V" formation. Most everyone knows that and has seen it, but do you know why? Scientists say that that it concerves energy. With each bird flying slight above the bird in front of him, it results in a reduction of wind resistance. The same principle has been incorporated into racing strategie for the same reason. The birds take turns being in front, and falling back when they get tired. You can see a lead change beginning in this image, as the front bird is slowly dropping back. The second reason is said to be communication. It is thought htat it helps the birds keep track of each other.
