A female Northern Cardinal, perched on a branch. She is intently watching activity at a feeder in a nature park. The female is less intensely colored than her male counterpart, but still quite striking. The cardinal is the official State Bird of my home state of North Carolina, and no fewer than six other states other eastern states.
I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina. Now, back home, and just enjoying the ride. I've been a photographer for over 40 years, first as a hobbyist, and then as a professional. I've enjoyed a lifelong love affair with animals domestic and wild, especially horses. I am an animal advocate, an outdoorsman, and naturalist first, and then a photographer. I believe that it is important to know, understand, and respect and protect the subjects that you want to photograph before ever setting foot in the wild.
