Artist's Description
These wild descendants of Spanish Mustangs have been roaming the beaches near Corolla, North Carolina for over 400 years. In recent years, they were fenced off from access to the streets of nearby villages like nearby Currituck, for safety reasons, however they still have just over 7500 acres to roam freely! The area in which they reside, is only accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles. This stallion is leading his harem across the dunes, after an early morning on the beach. There are three more following behind out of frame.
About Fon Denton
I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina. Now, back home, and just enjoying the ride. I've been a photographer for over 40 years, first as a hobbyist, and then as a professional. I've enjoyed a lifelong love affair with animals domestic and wild, especially horses. I am an animal advocate, an outdoorsman, and naturalist first, and then a photographer. I believe that it is important to know, understand, and respect and protect the subjects that you want to photograph before ever setting foot in the wild.
