Description
A yearling black bear takes a rest on a canal bank, in the early morning sun, after feeding heavily on the fresh spring grasses. The grass is one of the first things that grow in the spring, so it is a favorite of bears after the winter, until other things begin to green up. This is probably her first season on her own, and she seemed comfortable with the company, as I watched from the other side of the canal. She fed, she groomed, and she sat down for a rest, before feeding some more. She would look at me occasionally, but mostly just did her thing. Eventually she moved slowly further down the canal. It was so wonderful to observe her, from a respectful distance, comfortable in her natural behavior.
